We had a lovely campfire a few weeks ago, and Cuzco joined us as usual. Afterwards Phil brought out the fiddle, and as always, Cuzco parked himself front and center for the music. Finn and Snickers eventually came over to check out the music too. Phil wandered out into the meadow and played for the entire herd.
We took Finn, Snickers, Sledge, and Hammer for a hike up the Greenhorn Trail today. This was Sledge and Hammer’s first time out. They cried at first, as babies tend to do when you pull them away from mommy, but they seemed to enjoy themselves and quieted down by the end. Finn and Snickers provided … Continue reading Sledge and Hammer learn to hike →
A few of us decided to drive over to Lake Henry for a swim on Saturday and I brought the goats. Cuzco, of course, swam at the 2013 Rendy, but I wanted to introduce the younger boys. The water was perfect–a very nice temperature and an easy, gradual slope with a solid sand and gravel bottom. … Continue reading Swimming lessons →
Phil and I loaded up the goat trailer and spent a few days last weekend in Idaho at the North American Packgoat Rendezvous. What a great trip! We took Cuzco, Finn, Snickers, and Sputnik with us. The weather was incredible and the location was perfect for camping with goats. However, the trip was not without some … Continue reading NAPgA Rendezvous adventures →
These two guys are becoming the clowns of the herd. They’re running around like racehorses and getting into all kinds of mischief these days. It turns out they are very appropriately named. Unlike Snickers and Sputnik, who were always pretty good little buddies, Sledge and Hammer can get into some pretty serious fights! The hackles … Continue reading The twin terrors →
Petunia (also known as “Pretty Pet”) is Lilly’s first baby, born June 5, 2013. Her father was a blue roan Nubian buck. Pet is a mellow but very clever little goat who gives sweet, creamy milk. Petunia has the best airplane ears of any goat in our herd. She also is a very quick … Continue reading Petunia →
We had a foot of snow last night on top of the foot we already had, and we plowed and shoveled it away just in time for it to start snowing again. I think we’re supposed to get another foot tonight. Whew! Pac-Man helped me haul water out to the boys’ pen tonight. I loaded … Continue reading Snow Day! →
Our first “goat activity” of the day: We played on spools. Movie magic: With a spool and the right camera angle, we can make everyone think Snickers is standing on Pac-Man and Sputnik! Synchronized spool-top dancing.
Finn is having a growth spurt. He and Snickers often compete for “tallest 2014 kid,” but Finn just shot into the lead. He’s looking quite manly in this photo, but that is all going to change next week. He might be sad, but Phil and I will not miss the bad habits and rich aroma! … Continue reading An outing with the youngsters →
Yesterday was festive. It was a beautiful sunshiny day (a bit too windy, but I guess we can’t have everything). No girls are in heat right now (three should hopefully be bred), so I was able to let everyone out to play together. All the goats got a little something for Christmas. I bought a bag … Continue reading Christmas 2014 →
